Musicians often view musical theory as a tedious but a necessary task, whereas some musicians wear their lack of music theory knowledge as a badge of honor. There is a reason that all musicians generally take at least four semesters of basic music theory. This is because we cannot communicate musical ideas to each other. Whereas in school, we learn how to read and write English, but when it comes to music, most of us only know how to read it and have no idea as to how it actually works. The term music theory is not something you would want to talk about in a casual conversation at a party. For some musicians or hard core lovers, it has all the charm of a cuss word and none of the vitality. Mainly, composers use written notations to communicate with each other as to which note to be played when, in which key and for how long. Music theory is the most important for children to learn. This helps them in reading and playing music, most importantly, building their concentration. In addition to providing an understanding of what is written on a piece of paper, music theory also help students in gaining lot of confidence in their abilities, giving them the skills that they need to progress in their musical career for years to come.

These are the basic aspects in music that help musicians in decoding every question that occur in their heads. An understanding of scales, keys and intervals will help students in comprehending why certain notes are placed together, or why some keys require accidentals like sharps and flats. Learning music theory will help a student become a well-rounded musician. It also helps them in progressing further in their musical education.
